Barnes and Noble, Westminster

Question: I’m looking for new places to take my kids (preschool and school aged) this winter. If any of you have a favorite place you’d like to recommend...
Response: Some of these have been mentioned in the newsletter before, but these are the places we love: WOW Children’s Museum in Lafayette - it’s smaller than the Denver one, but has plenty for my preschoolers to do and seems to amuse school aged children just as well, the Dinosaur play place in the Flatirons Mall - mostly for younger kids, but so fun, and Barnes and Noble on Sheridan - they have a preschool storytime at 10am on Mondays and a storytime for all ages on Saturdays at 11am, plus the toys and books are always fun! 10/09
Chipper’s Lanes, Broomfield

Chipper’s Lanes in Broomfield is another place we plan to visit a lot this winter. They have preschool hours daily from 9-11am. For kids 6 and under you can pay $2 per game, which includes free shoe rentals for the kids! You can check their website for more information and other open bowling times. 10/09

Paul Derda Rec. Center, Broomfield

I’m sure most of you have at least heard of the Paul Derda Recreation Center, and many of you have probably visited at some point. The number of programs they offer for toddlers, kids, teens and families is staggering. When I moved to Broomfield, I immediately heard about the aquatic center and the rock climbing wall, but here are two things that I’ve discovered now that I’m a more seasoned Mom: the Indoor Playground, and the Preschool Gymnastics program.
The Indoor Playground is located to the right of the welcome desk and is free for children 3 and under. The hours coincide with regular Rec Center hours, and if you go before 10:30, your kids will be able to enjoy playtime before it gets really busy. Preschool Gymnastics runs on Mondays and Wednesdays and is a perfect way for your active toddlers to get their wiggles out! They have a morning and an afternoon time available and, depending on the day, classes run from $44-$57 (depending on membership I believe) for the six-week program. You can visit their site for more information.
Question: We’ve been having a hard time finding ways to occupy our 17 month old toddler on the weekends where he can get out of the stroller, but won’t get run over by older kids. Tried WOW Museum, Children’s Museum, 28th St. Mall, Flatirons Mall, Paul Derda...looking for new ideas.
Response: I know what you mean - we had trouble with that for awhile, too. During the week I would highly suggest going to the toddler hour at the WOW. Every Tuesday and Wednesday mornings (from 9-10am) only kids 5 and under are admitted - there usually aren’t that many people there, which is perfect for the younger kids. On the weekends you might want to try going earlier to the play places - we’ve gone on Saturdays to the Derda play place at 9am and been the only ones there. You could also enroll in a class (Paul Derda has awesome gymnastic classes). When we were having this problem, we put our toddler in swim lessons - it got all his energy out and was way less chaotic!! 12/09
Pump It Up, Broomfield

We just heard about Pump It Up in Broomfield. It’s an inflatable play area where kids 10 and under can jump around and get their energy out. Currently, they have family jump time from 10-11:30am on Mondays and Thursdays and 5:30-7pm on Tuesdays. Cost is $6 per child. Bring socks, sign a waiver and your kids are good to go! 10/09
Skate City, Westminster

Question: What is your favorite cheap outing for kids ages 3 through 10? We’re looking for some new things to try. Thanks.
Response: This is kind of on the younger side of things, but we love pixie skate at Skate City in Westminster (Thursday mornings). It’s for kids age 2-6 and it’s only $4.50 a kid (which includes roller skate rentals, snack and drink). The kids go out with a bunch of instructors and learn how to skate. My kids mostly love the lights and disco ball! 3/11
WOW Children’s Museum, Lafayette

The World of Wonder museum in Lafayette has plenty of exhibits to keep your kids busy during the day. From the pirate ship and the wind room to the train station and the costume stage, there will be something that catches your child’s eye. They also have special classes and events that you can read about on their website. Cost is $7 per child, parents are free! 10/09
