Ranches

Sun Prairie Beef

Question: I’ve heard that there are different farms or ranches in the area that you can buy meat from. Do any of you do this?

Response: Since moving here we’ve gotten all of our beef from Sun Prairie Ranch. They raise all their cattle locally and practice sustainable farming. The beef is amazing - it’s so lean and since it’s 100% grass-fed it has a fantastic taste. Check out their website at www.sunprairiebeef.com. I think they send out a free pound of beef for potential customers to try! 11/09

Dairies

Diamond D Dairy

Response to Feature: I just wanted to let you know of another local delivery company...Diamond D Dairy (that's also based in Longmont).  We've used them for about 9 months and have been very happy with their service.  When I was shopping around, they had the lowest prices for milk...I pay $4 per gallon for whole milk. 4/10

Johnson’s Acres

Question: Are there any milk delivery services that deliver organic milk to Broomfield?

Response: I know there are at least two farms that supply Raw Milk (check out Realmilk.com)to shareholders. I use and love Johnson's Acres right at I-25 and Rt 7. There's no delivery to Broomfield yet, but we could probably get a coop delivery going! 11/09

Longmont Dairy

Question: Are there any milk delivery services that deliver organic milk to Broomfield?

Response: We use Longmont Dairy. They deliver in glass. We've used them for 13 years.
Royal Crest also delivers to Broomfield; reusable plastic containers. 11/09

Response: We get our milk delivered form Longmont Dairy Farm - it is not certified organic, but they do not use growth hormones, etc. Milk chilled in a glass container tastes amazing, and it's so cool to have it delivered right to our door - so retro/quaint :) 11/09

Royal Crest

Question: Are there any milk delivery services that deliver organic milk to Broomfield?

Response: We’ve been using Royal Crest since August and they’ve been great. They are not certified organic (apparently to cut costs), but their milk exceeds organic standards and comes from local dairy farms. Currently they offer 1 1/2% milk for $2.50 a gallon - I think their skim is around $4 a gallon - and they deliver on Tuesdays and Fridays in Broomfield. We’ve loved it! 11/09

Raw Milk

In the state of Colorado it isn’t legal to sell/buy raw milk directly, but you can buy a share in a farm and then receive milk in exchange for that ownership. I know of a few people here that use raw milk (cow and goat) and really love it. Raw milk is especially good for people who are lactose intolerant - because it isn’t pasteurized, the lactase producing bacteria are present to help break everything down! To find a farm and see the details, check out this site: http://www.rawmilkcolorado.org/locator.php. 4/10
