Boulder Creek Festival

Join us over Memorial Day weekend 2010 for the 23rd Annual Boulder Creek Festival, the best event in Boulder!  The Boulder Creek Festival is the quintessential event in Boulder County!  For over twenty years, the Boulder Creek Festival has been the unofficial kickoff to summer in Boulder.  Widely considered Boulder County’s favorite event, the Boulder Creek Festival includes three days of festivities featuring a large variety of events, activities, food and entertainment unique to the Boulder community.

The Festival is free to the public and features something for everyone: 10 seperate event areas with 500 vendors showcase everything from community arts and crafts to health alternatives and technology while five performance stages feature a spectrum of music and dance.  The Festival also features carnival rides, food and beverage vendors and the signature event: the Great Rubber Duck Race!

Fourth of July

In Broomfield there is the “Great American Picnic” at Broomfield County Commons park.   From their website: “This hometown family event allows you to enjoy the most spectacular fireworks, family entertainment, pony rides, face painting and inflatables for the kids.  Bring your picnic dinner or enjoy a hot dog grilled to perfection for a minimal cost at the park.  Enjoy $5 inflatables, a free petting zoo, concessions and $3 pony rides. Grills will be allowed in the park! (Propane only - NO charcoal) as space allows.”  To see a map and list of events, visit the websiteAnd make sure you know the fireworks lighting system just in case the show is cancelled due to rain!

As to what’s happening around the rest of the Metro area, check out this siteThere’s a list of many of the festivals going on, music events, sporting events and some of the ongoing events at the museums in the area.  For a list of more fairs and festivals, go hereThen there is this site that lists the locations of all of the firework displays in the area - Brighton, Thornton, Arvada, etc.  You can find the location that best suits your family and find other events going on in the area.

Lastly, the Denver Post puts out a guide to July 4th every year.  It includes most of the fun festivals, rodeo’s and celebrations throughout the Denver area.  Check it out here.

The celebration in Thornton is at the Multipurpose Fields (Colorado Blvd. and 108th).  This event incorporates a patriotic program along with some of the area’s best walk-around entertainment, color guards, skydivers, musical entertainment and much more!  And of course, a wonderful fireworks display once the sun goes down.

Question: This is only our second July 4th in Broomfield and I was wondering if there are any “must see’s” or fun things to do for the celebration?

Response: This is probably what most people do for the 4th, but we always go over to the Broomfield Commons Park to watch the fireworks.  There’s an area right off of Sheridan with a playground, swings and open field where our kids love to play.  Then we settle down when it gets dark to watch the show!

National Night Out

Plan now to bring your picnic to the park for this years National Night Out on Tuesday, August 3, 2010. This years all city emphasis on safety and all-hazard preparedness is sponsored by the Broomfield Police Department at the Broomfield County Commons Park, 13th and Sheridan, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Interactive booths and activities will highlight the evening. You will see the landing of a Flight for Life helicopter, a K-9 demonstration, and a rescue extrication exercise by North Metro Fire Rescue with their portable smoke house. Returning this year are learning stations, Touch-a-Truck, Wildlife Masters, preparedness checklists and free refreshments.

This is the seventh year this summertime event has been held at Broomfield County Commons Park. Originally, the event was designed to bring crime prevention information into the neighborhoods, encourage neighborhood camaraderie and strengthen police and community relations as part of a fight for creating safer streets. Event organizers say that by being involved in your neighborhood and your community, you let others know that you care about what is occurring.

This years event is a community celebration, and representatives from the Police Department, North Metro Fire Rescue, Public Works, Health and Human Services, and the Parks Division and Recreation Services will be providing activities and information for all ages.

National Night Out  Picnic in the Park will provide a fun way to learn a variety of all-hazard preparedness information for everyone in the community. Invite all of your friends and family to this fun filled evening.
